ABOUT MANSI

JOURNALIST | PRODUCER | WRITER | CONTENT CREATOR

Hi I’m Mansi! I am a seasoned freelance journalist and producer of British South Asian heritage, navigating the intricate realms of print and broadcast media.

My journey in this field began with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from City, University of London, where I graduated with first-class honors. This foundation led me to pursue further studies at Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, where I earned a Master of Science with Honours, distinguishing myself as the top international student.

My career has been marked by a diverse array of experiences, from contributing innovative ideas and producing for stations such as BBC Radio 1, BBC Asian Network, BBC Radio 2, and BBC Sounds. Currently, I play a key role as a researcher and assistant producer for Audio Always’ Factual Team, driving investigative projects and fostering creativity for the BBC and beyond. My insights into youth culture and audio dynamics enhance project outcomes.

Previously, I have curated compelling content for news and lifestyle magazines, lending my words to various publications including The Bronx Ink, gal-dem, HELLO! Magazine, The Vegan Review, HOLR Magazine, Carrot Magazine and Dunyā Magazine. I specialise in long-form pieces, profiles, investigative reporting, and feature writing, and formerly managed two lifestyle magazines concurrently.

I am equally at home behind the mic as I am in front of the camera, with a proficiency in broadcast production and audio storytelling. From running TV newsrooms to hosting live radio shows, I have honed my skills in Adobe Audition and Adobe Premiere Pro, crafting immersive narratives and engaging audio stories.

My expertise extends to multimedia content creation, utilising tools such as Canva and Adobe Photoshop to captivate audiences across social media platforms.

In my field of research, I analysed how partisan media framed the South Asian community during the COVID-19 pandemic, showcasing my commitment to shedding light on crucial yet often overlooked topics.

Beyond the professional realm, I share glimpses of my journalist’s life through my personal blog (@mansithejourno), while my food blog (@munchwithmansi) serves as a canvas for exploring culinary delights in London, Leicester and around the globe.

As an ethnic minority journalist, I am driven by a desire to amplify diverse voices and perspectives, educating my audience on issues close to my heart. Passionate, creative, and diligent, I continuously seek avenues to broaden my skills and make meaningful contributions to the ever-evolving landscape of journalism.

RECENT WORK

Shoe Leather is an investigative podcast that digs up stories from New York’s past, to find out how yesterday’s news affects us today. This season we go back to the summer of 1988, to the Tompkins Square Park Riot. How anarchists, activists, squatters and punks struggled for power over the Lower East Side. And, how a police riot changed everything. My episode covers how one building became the symbol of class warfare in the 80s.

“Exhumed: Experiments in Memory” is published in collaboration with Columbia Journalism School’s Delacorte Review. It’s a collection of 17 stories, each beginning with a photograph. I am a first time published author.

My story is titled “Letting Kishan Go”. I share the tragic loss of my brother, beginning with my own memories – of those last days as well as memories that extended back weeks, months and years.
