SHOE LEATHER PODCAST: SEASON FOUR
Reporter, producer, script writer and presenter: 2023
Shoe Leather is an investigative podcast that digs up stories from New York’s past, to find out how yesterday’s news affects us today.
This season we go back to the summer of 1988, to the Tompkins Square Park Riot. How anarchists, activists, squatters and punks struggled for power over the Lower East Side. And, how a police riot changed everything.
On the night of August 6th, 1988 a police riot erupted in NYC’s Tompkins Square Park – the heartland of punk music, anarchy and activism in the Lower East Side. The riot ended when protesters broke through the lobby of the Christodora House. Our episode covers how one building became the symbol of class warfare in the 80s.
Shoe Leather Season 4 received over 6800 downloads in its first month of release.

UPTOWN RADIO: COLUMBIA JOURNALISM SCHOOL
Reporter and producer: October – December 2022
Starbucks workers strike
I reported on The Meatpacking District, which is one of only seven Starbucks locations in the world to offer specialised rare coffee beans. That’s called a Starbucks Reserve store. But in this fancy location in New York City, Starbucks is facing a common problem with dozens of its employees picketing outside.
Bronx food giveaway
During the semester we were tasked to do an audio day story. We woke up at 7am (or earlier), pitched a few stories by 8am and then set off to our events. I went to Castle Hill Houses, to join the neighbourhood STAT, the Bronx Borough President, Food Bank For New York City, Stop and Shop and the NY Giants for a Thanksgiving Food Distribution for Castle Hill residents. We had to report and be back on campus for 12 and then have it all edited and upload for 5pm.
Bronx pipeline
Bronx residents are upset that a new ConEd pipeline might be coming to the borough in 2023. Advocacy groups and local politicians are opposing the fracked gas pipeline that could damage Soundview Park, increase bills and harm resident’s health.
Bronx children’s museum
There’s a new museum in the Bronx for families to check out. After roaming the borough in a bus for nearly two decades, the museum finally has a brick and mortar location. But the museum has struggled and it’s been a long time in the making. I went along to the opening.
Uptown Radio Live Broadcast
I was executive producer for our live broadcast of Uptown Radio at the end of the semester, taking ultimate responsibility for the whole show. I thoroughly enjoyed planning the show and organising the production team, having the final word on all editorial and production decisions.
